The course not only explores what it is like to be autistic in the world today but also:

·       topics that the autistic community has long advocated should be integrated into mainstream education, systems, organisations, practice, policy and understanding.

·       what gets in the way of this.

·       tips and tools for creating change.

·       why it is important to the autistic community for those around it to advocate for the change the community needs.

·       how this can save autistic lives, and create healthier life outcomes for the community

·       the challenges faced by marginalized or minority groups within the autistic community.

·       insights from the inside of autism, rather than training designed by others, and why these matters.

Some elements of the training may feel uncomfortable, and there are important reasons for this - Karen wants to assure you that the training environment is warm, friendly, supportive, professional, and safe. It provides a space for participants to listen, learn, share their own experiences, and ask questions.

Karen Hannan is Viewpoint's Neurodivergence Champion - a role which requires her to hold Viewpoint and other organizations, systems, and practices accountable for:

·       helping to prevent risk to suicide, mental health decline and self-medication for neurodivergent people, and those who care about them.

·       supporting mental health and dependency recovery for neurodivergent people, and those who care about them.

Karen was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD later in life, and lives with well managed anxiety and depression. Through her work at Viewpoint and NeuMinKind, she seeks to promote healthy outcomes for autistic people and those who are otherwise neurodivergent, and those who care about them.
