Mental Health Awareness Week
The theme for this year was 'Body Image'. You can follow some of the stories shared over the last week on Twitter via #BeBodyKind and #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek and read what was debated in Parliament.
During the week Prince William announced that Heads Together is launching a new campaign 'Heads Up' in partnership with the Football Association next season. The Royals also launched the mental health text support service Shout, a legacy of the Royal Foundation's Heads Together.
Awareness days and weeks and high profile supporters and campaigns have done much to promote the importance of our mental health as well as our physical health. We also need to make sure that the 'hidden world' of mental health is given the exposure necessary to stop inhumane treatment and protect people from harm. Such as the case of Steven Boyd, a Mental Health Nurse 'who showed callous disregard for the safety of patients in his care.' Read a summary of the case on the BBC Website.
An open letter to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has been written detailing concerns about the NMC ruling. You can read the letter and find out how to add your support on the Fostering Change website and @WeCareAboutMH
