Letchworth service users dig new garden

02/08/2007

A THERAPEUTIC garden created by mental health patients has officially been opened.

The garden at The Letchworth Centre for Healthy Living at Rosehill Hospital on Hitchin Road in Letchworth GC has been developed by a group of patients as part of a recovery programme.

The Growing People Horticultural Therapy Programme has been piloted at the centre over the last year.

All the gardeners involved in the project are recovering from mental ill-health and the aim of the project was to help improve the quality of their life, their self-confidence, assertiveness and get them working as a team.

Chairman of North Hertfordshire District Council Alan Bardett opened the garden and said: "The gardeners have clearly benefited greatly from the challenge of developing a delightful garden which is proving a great asset for everyone at the Letchworth Centre. It is simply wonderful - tremendous therapy."
